It’s been a good 10 years, how time flies! Our couples have themselves gone on to celebrate many anniversaries. There were an instance when Chris’ couple from the 90s had children, and their daughter, all grown up, signed on with Chris for our Z Wedding collaboration! It was a such a momentous occasion.

Speaking of momentous occasions, please do join us for our anniversary party at FOO’D! Do find all the details from Z Wedding’s blog copied below.

Z Wedding’s 10th Anniversary at FOO’D It had been 10 wonderful years of collaboration between Z Wedding and Chris Ling International Photographers as we served many blissful couples on the biggest moment of their lives! It all begun when Z Wedding and Chris Ling International Photographers spotted a missing link in the bridal industry and strove to work towards filling the gap. Other than ensuring consistency between a portfolio and the actual results, we also understand the need of our clients. Photography is after all not just an item to be ticked off your wedding checklist, it also requires a certain skill and knowledge on what to expect from photographers – in this case the team is lead by Chris Ling himself, thus ensuring a high standard of quality to our customers.

As for Z Wedding ourselves, we’ve always pride ourselves in designing gowns to flatter different silhouettes. Be it the occasion (pre-wedding or actual day, indoor or outdoor shoot), the theme required for your banquet, or even tips to hide your “flaws” while flattering your curves. Brides can always count on us to advice on what suits you best. Together, we created a value no other can match; thus resulting in 10 years of successful collaboration that we can’t wait to share with everyone!

Z Wedding’s 10th Anniversary at FOO’D To all brides-to-be, it’s time to mark your calendars and bring your better halves along~ Organised by Z Wedding and Chris Ling International Photographers, we are so stoked to invite you to our first ever Wedding Party at FOO’D by Davide Oldani to celebrate this major milestone! Without a doubt, this year’s couture runway collection from our esteemed bridal partner, Z Wedding, crescendoed into another successful show. Our sponsors and collaborators worked hard to show off their talents, and everyone’s efforts paid off. It was clear from the embracing reaction of the VIPs and guests that everyone received the show positively!

The picture above is the grand finale shot from my iPhone, and this was what guests see during the show. At that very point, I was thinking of how much work had been put in just for this moment to arrive. I personally witnessed the set up and recorded the progress, and I would like these photos to tell the story behind Z Wedding Couture Runway.

In addition, I would also like to thank all the sponsors and collaborators who contributed to the Runway’s success. This show is special and it is the only one of its kind in Singapore’s bridal industry in terms of grand scale and high standards. Z Wedding has shared similar ground breaking and forward looking mind sets for us to achieve what I could only dream of before.

What is the one thing you would associate immediately with when the word “wedding” is mentioned? More often then not, it would be a wedding gown. The wedding gown sat through different eras and lived through centuries of styles.

Built with any materials ranging from cotton to silk, it can be embellished with pearls or gold, or nothing at all. Like a dream, the wedding dress will be embraced by the bride. She will appreciate the final look and feel when she adorns the dress. When Chris was invited by Z Wedding and Le Grand to be take a first-hand look at the full process of gown making, he finally understood that gown design is as much an artistry as photography. It takes time, hard work, and talent for gown designers to craft their skill.

In this series, Chris records the artists working on their new collection for the Couture Runway show. He transforms these moments behind the scenes into photography art forms. After all, a gown can be a three dimensional realisation of art the bride can wear.

In my line of work, cameras are, to state the obvious, extensions of my arms. My equipment, like my team and I, also evolved through the years. The one thing that didn’t change was our love of the printed (or digital!) visual arts.

I am currently using a few different camera systems, each with their pros and cons. To me now, a camera is just the equipment I need to take the picture I want: ISO, focus, shutter speed, aperture, etc. It is the final photo that matters! When I started photography, my dream camera was the Canon F1, with all its dials and manual control on the exterior of the camera body. I owned it 30 years ago, and I eventually sold it. I started thinking about it again and  after so many years, I began to miss that look and feel of holding a manual camera.

I eventually found the Fujifilm XT-2. It came the closest to reliving my days with my old Canon. With the new system, I kept it simple with one lens attached, 35mm F2, much like my very first set up (Canon AE-1 with 50mm F1.4 attached). Photos are all about memories, and this XT-2 somehow brought me back to those times when I first started. It reminded me about my passion for photography.

With this system, I went behind the scenes of the model casting session for Z Wedding’s upcoming bridal season launch. It is the Z Wedding Couture Runway 2017 happening on 19th March, 7pm, at the Chijmes Hall. This is a grand event for bridal fashion in Singapore,  and their Midsummer Dreams collection is set to once again wow the guests. Inspired by beautiful nature, the Z Wedding designers took the magic from Alice In Wonderland’s secret gardens and Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night forests, and recreated them through their gowns. This year, the bride will be a powerful feminine figure, a queen of the night with allure, charm, and strength!

Just as there is no one camera that fits all photographers, the gown designers know one gown can’t fit all brides. That is why they constantly come up with exciting concepts and ideas in different cuts and silhouettes to cater to different brides. It is quite an amazing process to see them in action as they meticulously hand sew their finishing details well into the night. All of us share a commonality, we are passionate about our job and our art.

Looking forward to the show!

– Chris

Let’s do a throwback to the successful launch of the Z Wedding x Chijmes collaboration. It was a star studded night of fashion and glamour as the models strut down the runway in Z Wedding’s latest pieces. As the official photography and video partner of the night, we were pleased to see VIPs and guests enjoying themselves in their glitzy regalia. We were proud that a Singapore label can hold its own in the fashion industry.

Inspired by the fine details of Chijmes’ neo-gothic architecture, this collection aims to translate these key elements into bridal gowns. This architectural movement sees numerous subtle details adorned on the foundations of the building. Its key focus is bringing out the grand scale of a hall through intricate accents, rather then garish decorations. As such, Z Wedding created the Chijmes Wedding collection to emotionally connect with their brides. The play on details aims to bring out radiance, while the structural flow of the gown ensures the bride looks pristine. Like the intricate floral and bird motifs on Chijmes’ Corinthian columns, emphasis is placed on the gown’s line work and lace. The key is the meticulously hand crafted touches of embellishments on bold lace, creating a look that embodies soft femininity and glamour.

We can’t wait to see what Z Wedding comes up with next.

From since our inception in 1993, Chris’ goal had always been to be the best, the brightest, and the most professional. With that in mind, the studio, our team, and our partnerships had indeed grown tremendously over the decades. Chris’ ambitions were met year after year, especially with the full support of bridal boutiques Z Wedding Design and Le Grand Wedding. It has been an amazing journey with their support. In turn, we have also given them our full support.

Working toward being number one is an uphill task, but the rewards were amazing. Once again, we have managed to outdo our last efforts and Z Wedding Design will launch what is thus far the most prestigious wedding couture runway show. Roping in an exclusive collaboration with Chijmes Weddings by Watabe Weddings, Z Wedding has created a collection inspired by the amazing architecture of Chijmes.

In attendance will be artists Fann Wong and Chris Tong, and many prominent influencers in the fashion and lifestyle industry.

The Z Wedding x Chijmes Wedding Runway Show promises to be the most prestigious yet, and again a first in the wedding industry. We will continue to strive for the best, and thankfully through ups and downs our efforts managed to rake in conducive results. To put in so much effort and see our goals fulfilled is satisfying and addictive, rest assured we will continue to do our best!

From when Chris first started in 1993, he has come to experience that photography alone is only one part of a newlywed’s wedding planning. Many other aspects come into play, and therefore he started sourcing for the best in the industry.

Our collaboration with Z Wedding was formed in 2006. It was then undergoing a new management, and their performance and customer service vastly improved. New gown designers and makeup artist were also hired. With this team, Z Wedding proved to be a formidable contender in the wedding market not only for gowns, but for an all round service. Therefore, Z Wedding, and thereafter their sister company Le Grand, formed an exclusive partnership with our studio. All Z Wedding and Le Grand couples will be photographed by us, and we will give them our fullest support at the most competitive rates.

Who Makes The Gowns?

What would a wedding day be without your wedding gown? All of us in the industry would like to say that our part of the job is the most important. To be honest, we humbly recognize that such a claim is ludicrous. It takes many hands to come together, and the gowns do make the bride.

At Z Wedding, they have three key designers. They create by taking their inspiration from three areas:

  1. Bride’s sentiments from one to one interactions.
  2. International fashion couture.
  3. Art from the very city we live in.

With a realistic view of what would be best for every bride, they produce a wide range of gowns that would suit many shapes and sizes, and every taste and personality.

The gowns are created and crafted in Singapore by their team of designers and seamstresses.

The Makeover

Makeup. Hair. Styling. What kind of accessories would go well with a bustier? Which shade of pink would go with the evening gown? Hair up, or hair down? After many shoots, we’ve noticed the worth of a good makeup artist during post-production. The better the makeup, the less the editing!

The Z Wedding/Le Grand stylists are professional and attentive. We will always recommend going as natural as possible when applying colours on your face, and that is what they do. Makeup isn’t overdone, the hairdo goes with the gown, and the styling suits the theme.

Our Photographers

When all is in place, it is time to immortalize it in photos. Our photographers, already familiar with our partners, know how to capture the moments deserving of your wedding. They are trained to provide you with timeless classics that will not make you cringe when you view your albums again on your 10th anniversary.

With the gown and styling good to go, our photographers will have an easier time and it allows them to focus on you. This saves them the trouble of correcting a fallen eyelash, or adjusting a wayward sash. Which in turn translates to more time focused on you, the newlywed.

Do you know that all the photos that seemed uncontrived and in the moment are directed by our photographers? We fully understand that our couples are not models, and they will need every help they can get in knowing details such as which angle is the most flattering or where to place their hands.

How Are The Pre-Wedding Albums Made?

The photography process does not stop at a click of the camera. Your selected images are then sent to our graphic designers to be further edited in detail, and laid out in an album format. Again, it takes many years to train a graphic designer on how to naturally touch up an image. Too smooth makes you look like a mannequin, and yet images too raw will be rejected. No one wants a reminder of the pimple you had when you took your wedding photos!

Each image is edited and designed in a page layout. The images have to correspond with each other, so that a fluid story can unfold. We emphasize greatly on matching photos because we want your album to be a smooth transition from one page to the next, not a picture folder of slotted 4R prints that anyone can insert.

The Perks of an Exclusive Collaboration

In our case, familiarity does not breed contempt. We are very happy to work with trusted partners that did not fail to deliver time after time. Hiccups are bound to occur, but we are happy to notice that they are also quickly resolved. All made possible when individuals with different skill sets work in cohesion; each respecting the other’s creative space as well as understanding their limitations.

Brand Partnerships With Other Boutiques

We still do continue our good work with our other trusted partners. Though not exclusive, we offer discounted rates to couples that have signed up with Amanda Lee Weddings, Dang Bridal, Divine Couture, and Silhouette the Atelier. These boutiques are our preferred partners, they too have proven to be reputable in the industry.

Chris had just finished the latest fashion editorial shoot for Le Grand’s new season. This time round, it is all about the lace.

The collection pulls wedding fashion from way back when, an era where the 60s modernist tide welcomed the free spirit of the 70s. For wedding fashion, it was a time where lace had been a preference for most brides. Now, more so then ever, it has proved to be a versatile accent. Modern cuts brings the 70s to 2015; and vintage inspired lace gives the bride the feminine touch to a bold personality.

The Le Grand stylist and makeup artist during the fashion editorial pulled off the overall look befitting the gowns. Their effort had helped Chris create the right imagery for the theme. Stylists cum makeup artists are the paint to the canvas, and our photographers will catch the look. The gowns, the stylist, and the photographer, everyone has a part to play be it a wedding or a fashion shoot!

It was an amazing show for those who had attended the our boutique partner’s launch of their Spring/Summer 2014 collection. We had more celebrities that attended the show this year, and many were anticipating Fann Wong’s RSVPed attendance. Unfortunately, she had to cancel her plans because she fell sick that day. Maybe next time we’ll catch her at a better time.

Here is the link to the Facebook album on snippets of what went on during the show.

For the gowns, it was a gorgeous collection of designs that were truly bold and unique, yet feminine and elegant. Take a look at a few of our  picks:

“The Le Grand Spring/Summer 2014 is inspired by the mythical city of Atlantis. There is a mystique that shroud this city as it sits in its on the ocean floor. Wrapped in a blue abyss, imagine a spring burst of colours as schools of vibrant ocean life swim within its ruins. Imagine also mythical mermaids as they glide within the city walls. These imageries materialised itself in Le Grand’s Atlantis collection, a mix of mermaid silhouettes as light reflect off their scales, and a vision of strength as these creatures remained guardians of Atlantis. This is an artistic rendition of a spring/summer collection, an ethereal femme fatale.”

. . .

“The Z Wedding Spring/Summer 2014 is themed on a garden in full bloom. The strength of a woman is also her femininity. Floral details were spared no expense as this season the collection dresses the bride in her very own Eden. The stature of a grand ball gown is romanticized by the softness of delicate blooms, creating the perfect fairy tale as spring approaches.”

. . .

And here is the link to the other gowns that strutted down the catwalk.
